Converting HEX to CMYK

Hex is a screen color, CMYK is for print. This tool converts a hex code into the four ink percentages a printer needs, so a color you chose on screen can be reproduced on paper as closely as possible.

What to expect

  • Bright screen colors often soften, because ink cannot glow like a pixel.
  • The result is four numbers: cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black).
  • Always treat the converted value as a close match, then proof on the real stock.
Worked example: #1E90FF becomes roughly cmyk(88%, 44%, 0%, 0%). Going back to screen is handled by CMYK to HEX.

When you need it

Reach for this before sending artwork to print: logos, flyers, packaging. To pick or adjust the print color directly, use the CMYK picker.

Why is my bright blue duller in CMYK?

Screens cover a wider color range than ink on paper, so vivid colors are toned down when converted.

Is the conversion exact?

No conversion is exact, because screen and print ranges differ. It gives the closest printable match.
